Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation with the Kingdom of Denmark in the Digital Field

On 24 November 2021, H.E. Dr. MAKISHIMA Karen, then Minister for Digital, held a signing ceremony at the Digital Agency for Memorandum of Cooperation in the digital field with H.E. Mr. Jeppe KOFOD, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Minister Makishima welcomed Foreign Minister Kofod, the first foreign guest since she assumed the post of the Minister for Digital and commented that she was very honored to sign the first Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) as Digital Agency. Through this MoC, she would like to learn a lot from Demark, the digitally advanced country, and to enhance the collaboration in the areas of symposiums, forums, personnel exchanges, and the Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT).
Minister Kofod stated that Denmark had a long history in digitalization and had experienced common challenges with Japan, such as modernizing the old IT system and others. He commented that a new framework for cooperation between Japan and Denmark was been established by signing the memorandum, and that he would like to promote collaboration more in the digital field. He also mentioned that Denmark is currently working to implement a more innovative digitalization, and he looks forward to working with Japan, as the key to this is initiative and leaving no one behind.
Both ministers then signed their respective duplicated MoCs displayed on the tablet devices.
Summary of Memorandum of Cooperation
Objective
To develop collaboration between the Digital Agency Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark (representing the Digitalization Agency and the Business Authority) in the digital field.
Areas of cooperation
Areas of collaboration or alignments include (but are not limited to) the following.
- To promote bilateral collaboration and facilitate the exchange of information and expertise in related to the digitalization issues.
- Mutual cooperation to promote and share the ideas of data flow including the principles of the DFFT.
Methods of cooperation
The following methods are included.
- Exchange of information on policies, laws and regulations.
- Joint seminars, workshops, and meetings.
- Other methods to be decided between the two countries.
Duration
The cooperation under this MoC will commence on the date of its signing and will be continued for a period of three years. Thereafter, it will automatically be renewed for further periods of one year, unless either participant gives six months’ written notice in advance to the other participant of its intention to terminate this MoC.
