Mr. KONO Taro, Minister for Digital Transformation, attended the Trilateral Commission, 2023 Asia Pacific Group Regional Meeting

On November 25 and 26, 2023, Minister Kono attended the Trilateral Commission(*
), 2023 Asia Pacific Group Regional Meeting held in South Korea. He delivered a speech at Special Session on the 26th and exchanged views with ministers and other officials of South Korea.The meeting was attended by about 80 government officials and industry representatives from Japan, Korea, India, and other Asian countries.

The Trilateral Commission was established in 1973 under the name "Japan-North America-Europe Commission". It is a non-profit policy consulting organization comprising private sector leaders from each region. Over time, the commission expanded its membership and changed its name to "The Trilateral Commission" in the 1990s. Today, the commission holds rotating annual meetings in the Asia Pacific, North America, and Europe regions, in addition to the regional annual meetings.
Special Session
During the Special Session held on the 26th, Minister Kono delivered a speech in which he outlined the initiatives of the Digital Agency, addressed shared issues among participating countries, and expressed expectations for collaboration with Asian countries. He emphasized the importance of using data with trust for effective AI utilization and explained the need to ensure interoperability through the Institutional Arrangement for Partnership (IAP), an international mechanism for operationalizing DFFT, as endorsed its establishment at G7 Summit this year. Additionally, he highlighted the crucial role of IAP in fostering a continuous "dialogue" among industry, academia, and government, providing a "space" for technological development through the innovations of the private sector.
Minister Kono also had an exchange of views with ministers and other officials from South Korea before and after his speech.
