Launch of the JAPAN-UK Digital Partnership

On December 7, 2022, Japan and the United Kingdom launched the Japan-UK Digital Partnership, a ministerial-level framework aimed at further strengthening digital cooperation between the two countries.

On December 7, 2022, the Digital Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications(MIC), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI)of Japan, and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport(DCMS)of the United Kingdom held a top-level meeting at which they launched a ministerial-level framework called the Japan-UK Digital Partnership.

Japan was represented by Mr. OGUSHI Masaki, State Minister for Digital Transformation, Mr. TSUGE Yoshifumi, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and Mr. HIRAI Hirohide, Vice Minister for International Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, while the UK was represented by Mr. Paul SCULLY, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The participating representatives signed an agreement on the partnership.

The Japan-UK Digital Partnership has been established to build on the fruits of cooperation amassed to date by the Japan-UK Digital Group by addressing the priorities of Japan and the UK in the digital field at an even higher level. Ministerial-level meetings based on this partnership will be held regularly, thereby further enhancing collaboration between Japan and the UK.
