Comments on the revision of the "List of Ciphers to be Referred for procurement in E-Government (CRYPTREC Cipher List)" will be invited.
- Published:
Digital Agency, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are evaluating cryptographic technologies used in e-government through CRYPTREC activities, and have recently prepared a revised draft of the "List of Ciphers to Be Referred for procurement in E-Government (CRYPTREC Cipher List)."
Therefore, we will seek opinions on this revised proposal from Thursday, March 9, 2023 to Thursday, March 23, the same year.
1. Overview
Digital Agency, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are evaluating and examining the security, implementation, and use performance of cryptographic technologies through CRYPTREC * activities. In March 2013, they revised the "List of Recommended Ciphers for E-Government" (formulated in February 2003) and formulated the "List of Ciphers to Be Referred for procurement in E-Government (CRYPTREC Ciphers List)".
The CRYPTREC Cipher List (established in March 2013) was formulated on the assumption that it will be operated for about 10 years, excluding minor revisions. In light of the fact that cryptographic technologies are becoming more important due to changes in industrial structures and society, we have prepared a revised draft of the CRYPTREC Cipher List (established in March 2013) based on the results of a survey on the use of cryptographic algorithms conducted this fiscal year. We are soliciting opinions as follows.
*CRYPTREC is an abbreviation of Cryptography Research and Evaluation Committees. It is a project to evaluate and monitor the security of e-government recommended ciphers, and to investigate and examine the appropriate implementation and operation methods of cryptographic technologies. It consists of the Cryptographic Technology Review Committee, which is jointly operated by Digital Agency, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Cryptographic Technology Evaluation Committee and the Cryptographic Technology Utilization Committee, which are jointly operated by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (N development) and the Information-Technology Promotion Agency (IPA).
