Result of Japan-ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting in 2025

On January 17, 2025, the fourth ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting with Japan (ADGMIN+Japan) took place in Bangkok, Thailand, where Mr. KISHI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Digital Transformation, attended the meeting.
Overview
The ADGMIN+Japan is the only ministerial-level meeting where Digital ministers from Japan and the ASEAN Member States meet to decide on initiatives and cooperation in the digital sector.
During the meeting in 2025, the ASEAN-Japan Digital Work Plan was endorsed by the participants, promoting cooperation between Japan and ASEAN in the digital field over the coming year.
Based on this cooperation, the Digital Agency proposed the Data Governance Work Package to enhance collaboration between Japan and ASEAN in data governance to develop a digital society and build a resilient and complementary digital supply chain. This proposal aims to create a digital partnership between Japan and ASEAN, including the Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT), to establish a society where data can be fully utilized, ensuring that data can be safely and smoothly transferred between both sides.
We will enhance cooperation between Japan and ASEAN in data governance/DFFT, while working towards the co-prosperous development of both sides by maximizing the potential of data as a foundation for a digital society.

Uy, Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) of The Philippines.
